Hess Triangle
A 500-square-inch mosaic wedge of sidewalk that the city could never legally seize from a stubborn landlord's estate, so his heirs tiled it themselves in 1922 to make the point permanent. It reads PROPERTY OF THE HESS ESTATE and most people step right over it without noticing.
